Insurance Fraud: The Rollercoaster Ride Continues
The recent case of Yeganeh v Zurich plc confirmed what is now well established law that if an insured makes a claim under the policy, some of which is genuine, some of which is fraudulent, then the insured forfeits the entire claim.

An Unusual Case by the Vicar of Spalding – Duty to Warn
In this unusual case the Vicar of Spalding brought a claim against Chubb Fire Limited for the clean up costs to a church after a dry powder fire extinguisher was discharged.

Fraud, insurance, and now costs
Fraud costs the insurance industry £millions. For some reason, it is thought to be fair game to make false claims against insurers, sometimes by parties who wouldn’t ordinarily behave like that – if the house has been broken into, there’s nothing wrong with claiming for an extra 20 CDs or so? Is there? Possibly this is because it is seen as a crime without a victim, which ignores the wider impact of increased premiums to cover the higher losses.

Blame Culture?
There was a very interesting television programme broadcast on Channel 4 on Thursday 25 February 2010 entitled “Scams, Claims and Compensation Games”. It was a documentary about the litigation culture in this country with particular focus on personal injury claims.
