EU Directive Affecting Inland Water Vessels

It is understood that from 1 January 2011 a European Union Directive will require the mandatory conversion to the use of Ultra Low Sulphur Bio Fuels in place of the traditional red diesel for all inland waterway vessels. The Department for Transport has issued a consultation for a period of three months regarding the implementation of the Directive.

Such a Directive would raise a number of potential issues to owners of inland waterway vessels and those involved in the supply and storage of fuel supplies.
