Siemens selects ABP’s Green Port Hull for £80m turbine facility

On January 20, 2011, Siemens and Associated British Ports (ABP) announced that they have signed a Memorandum of Understanding in connection with ABP’s proposed Green Port Hull development. They will work together to develop plans for the construction of a new offshore wind turbine manufacturing and export facility with the aim of executing definitive agreements in 2011.

The proposed Siemens factory will supply the Dogger Bank, Hornsea and Norfolk wind farms – all within 12 hours’ steam time from Hull.

Siemens has indicated that it will invest in excess of £80m in the production/export facility.

ABP plans to invest £100m in the project. Matt Jukes, ABP’s port director for Hull said, “This will probably be the single biggest investment we have made in the UK since the docks were built in the 1800s. It is huge.”

The proposed Siemens factory will be built on 130 acres of ABP land at Alexandra Dock.
