MYTON LAW ON INTERNATIONAL TRADE PANEL TO LOOK AT LEGAL ISSUES ARISING FROM PANDEMIC

16/07/2020

Myton Law’s John Habergham has been invited to join a panel of speakers to explore ‘Covid-19 and Brexit – the impact on continuity of trade’, which is the focus of Hull & Humber Chamber’s next International Trade Centre webinar on Thursday, July 30.

The panel, drawn from Yorkshire’s international trade community, will look at the issues faced by both businesses buying and selling abroad and logistics providers as a direct consequence of the coronavirus crisis and how they can safeguard their interests from here on, before asking how firms can build their resilience to cope with the further challenge of Brexit.

The panel will include Alan Platt, Chief Executive Officer of the John Good Group of Companies, one of the UK’s leading independent shipping and logistics providers, who will talk about the impact of Covid and the logistical challenges of Brexit.

Drawing on Myton Law’s specialist shipping, rail and logistics legal expertise John Habergham will look at what logistics businesses can do when customers do not pay, briefly exploring the use of liens.  The pandemic has also resulted in businesses pulling out of contracts and he will look at ‘force majeure’, asking when it applies to a contract, and at the doctrine of ‘frustration’, as well as lessons to be learnt to protect businesses moving forward.

Professor Christopher Bovis, Professor of International and European Business at the University of Hull, will expand the webinar discussion to bring in the impact of a no deal Brexit on international trade, including both challenges and opportunities for the British economy.

Chaired by Phil Jones, President of the Hull & Humber Chamber, the Zoom webinar at 2pm on Thursday, July 30, is free, but places are limited.  To register for a place visit www.hull-humber-chamber.co.uk
